Ray Larabie, creator of over 400 font families, maintains Font Sugar. You can find some of Ray’s fonts here and others at Larabie Fonts. He also runs the commercial font company, Typodermic.
Ray explains:
I chose the fonts on Font Sugar simply because I like them. If you don’t agree with my choices that is understandable, because you are not me. If there are fonts that you think deserve to be added or removed, I’d love to hear about them but I can’t guarantee I’ll agree.
Being a freeware font designer, I know what it’s like to be inundated with email from people who can’t be bothered to solve their own problems. Giving away free fonts is kind, don’t you think? Don’t punish freeware font designers by pestering them with technical questions that you can solve by Googling around for a few minutes.
