Extracting Fonts from Zip files in Windows
The fonts in the free fonts section of this website have have a .zip file extension. Windows Vista, XP & 2000 can unpack zip file archives and self-extracting zip files when you right click on the file, and select Extract. Otherwise, use software such as TurboZip, WinZip, or FreeZip to unpack these files.
Installing Fonts in Windows
In your Start menu, go to the Control Panel (Classic View) and open the Fonts folder. Choose File > Install New Font. Locate the fonts you’d like to install, cross your fingers and pray. Make sure the Copy fonts to the Fonts folder check box is selected. What? You don't have a Install New Font option? Well, another technique you can use is to drag & drop fonts into the fonts folder. The next time you run Word, Illustrator or whatever software you have, the fonts should appear in the Font menu. Installing hundreds of fonts in one go is not recommended. Install the fonts just before you intend to use them or install just a few at a time.
Extracting Fonts from Zip files on a Mac
If you have Stuffit Expander installed (and most Mac users will) it will open .zip archives too.
Installing Fonts on a Mac
In Mac OSX, it should be easy to figure out how to install a font. If you use a font management utility read the documentation that came with it. In the Finder, open the folder or disk that contains the fonts you want to install. Drag and drop the fonts into the Fonts folder in the Library folder.
Commercial Use of Free Fonts
Most of the free fonts come with documentation or a contact address but some do not. We’ve done our best to provide links to each font’s creator but some creators could not be found. You'll have to make your own decision about commercial use for these fonts.
